Thurs. Men’s League playoff results are posted at the bottom of the league page.

Just a reminder that although the HGCC respects that in some circumstances, a fivesome can be the best way to golf for social reasons, it does not grant these groups extra time to play the game.  Be aware of the golfers behind you, and use your social graces and allow faster players to play through!  Thank you.

August 19th

Unfortunately, due to a lack of support, the Sept. 17 fundraiser is being canceled.  We will consider running one in the spring if there is more support.

The Seniors is tomorrow, the Club Championship is on Sunday ($20 per member) then next weekend we have a two ball tournament (sign up and info at the clubhouse).

Of course the George Wilkin’s Labor Day Classic is coming up fast as well.  If you are a member, the fee for the entire tournament has been reduced to $55.00.  For out of town participants, this year, the HGCC is picking up the cart fees for both days.  Spread the word around.  Bring a friend and have some fun at the George Wilkins Labor Day Classic!

In other news, the Club is running tooney tuesday for the Ladies.  Any Lady that golfs on Tuesday can drop a tooney in the bucket to play.  Warren and the gang have fashioned some games, and the winner will be announced the following Tuesday.

We would like to thank the out of town ladies for joining us, the club house kitchen staff and the club house manager for all their help, the greens keepers for an awesome course and the businesses who donated to our tournament.

See you next year!!

Friday/August 12th

Some very exciting news to give you.  First, the Labor Day Classic has added some incentives to promote participation.  You know this is just a great time anyway, but now the HGCC is making it even more accessible.  If you are a member, the fee for the entire tournament has been reduced to $55.00.  For out of town participants, this year, the HGCC is picking up the cart fees for both days.  Spread the word around.  Bring a friend and have some fun at the George Wilkins Labor Day Classic!

I just want to encourage all of the members to become sales people for the Club.  It is your word of mouth, and your participation in promoting our club that is going to maintain a healthy situation.  It can be as simple as bringing a friend to golf, or bringing up in the conversation the wonderful facility we enjoy at extremely reasonable fees, or mentioning some of the great incentives that we offer such as the Labor Day deal mentioned above, or the new membership promotion we are offering that is outlined below.  As members of the HGCC you are by default part of the HGCC booster club.  Let people know of the wonderful club we have and the great experiences that can be had by all!  Thank you muchly!!

We have several tournaments coming up including the Oilmen’s on the 13th, the Seniors on the 20th,  the Club Championship on the 21st, the Chamber on the 26th, and the Atco tourney on the 27th.

An important announcement is that the HGCC will no longer be accepting First Class Cards.  Although we have honored these cards from the beginning of the season, the executive has no knowledge of renewing our promotion with this company, and after repeated requests to the company to produce a contract that proves our commitment to this program for the 2011 season, we still have we received nothing.  The company appears to be in disarray, and it appears as though they have listed us without our confirmation.  We apologize for any misunderstanding or inconvenience this may cause.   We will not be using the services of this company in the future.  The strategy of the HGCC going forward is to promote locally with reasonable, everyday low fee structure on an outstanding golf course.

As part of this strategy, we are offering the following;

For new members you may pay your 2012 membership ($675+gst) and development fee ($250) on or after August 15th 2011 and play the rest of 2011 and all of 2012 as a member.

This now will be of additional benefit if you plan to participate in the Labor Day Classic, because you will be entitled to the member rate of$55 and it will also entitle you to play in the Club Championship on August 21st!!!

The commitment to the fundraiser has not been as expected and we hope that all of you members understand the importance of this event, and participate.  If you have questions, comments or suggestions please contact Craig Berke cpberke@gmail.com or Terry Blocksom terry@ipchanna.ca or enquire at the clubhouse.  We need your help.  Thank you.

I have not received any results from the Ladies Tournament, so if someone out there has them, I would be glad to post them.  send them to drdavid17@mac.com.

Last, if there is anything you want to get off your chest, put on the agenda for the Fall meeting, or any suggestion that will make our club better, please forward it to me... drdavid17@mac.com

Friday/July 29th

Just a quick note... The Ryder Cup Tournament is cancelled.

As well, big thanks to two more members, who did a great job fixing the front step.  Thank you Bill Paisley and Myles Hein.

Tuesday/July 26th

Andy Rock’s Invitational was a stunning success, despite the rain, and in the end, Andy won his own tournament....Thank you for your support Andy.

The Farmers/Ranchers has been postponed and we will get a date out to you all.

Mark on your calendar to participate in the fundraiser Sat. Sept. 17th.  We still need volunteers to help out so please contact Craig Berke cpberke@gmail.com or Terry Blocksom terry@ipchanna.ca or sign up at the clubhouse.  We need your help.  Thank you

Don’t forget the two new opportunities to become a member.  It is always appreciated when members are able to enroll new members into the club.  Make yourself aware of these two offers that are described below so you can encourage more members.  I would like to extend a warm welcome to all that have taken advantage of this opportunity already.

Tournaments coming up include the club championship/on the 21st of August,  the Oilmen’s on the 13th, the Ladies Open on the 6th, and the Seniors on August 20th.

Information on all these tournaments is available at the clubhouse.

Thank you to the #6 net repair crew which included Bob Christie, Larry Rowden, Jerry Hannah, Glenn Meyers, Jack Clow, George Andrews and ATCO.

One of the hot topics for the fall meeting may be the re working of the tournament fee for members.

See you next time...

Monday/July 4..... Great Canada Day Tourney... Thank you Calvin and Karin for your work.

We need volunteers for the fundraiser in September.  Please sign up at the Clubhouse.

There is some exciting membership news !  Because of the inclement weather in the Spring we are offering two Membership deals for 2011.  If you know of someone who is on the fence about buying a membership, please let them know of this opportunity.  They are;

#2 For new members you may pay your 2012 membership ($675+gst) and development fee ($250) on or after August 15th 2011 and play the rest of 2011 and all of 2012 as a member.

Not too late to get your name into the Hanna Farmers Scramble being held this Friday, July 8th.  You classify as a farmer if you have a garden so don’e let the label hold you back.  Go ahead, sign up and have some fun.

Thank you to Doug Todd for donating a couple of free rounds with carts that are being offered to out of town golfers who happen into the Tourist  booth.

Sat/ June 25..... Exciting Tourney News.  Grab a Farmer, Rancher, Farmerette or Rancherette and play in the 1st HGCC Farmer/Rancher Scramble Tourney, July 9th!  Details at the clubhouse.  As well check out the Ryder Cup tournament being held at the end of July.

Sat/ June 18th.... Oilmen’s rescheduled to Aug 13th.

Thursday men’s results are up.  We are using a new computer program and still trying to work out the kinks.  If you have any suggestions on the format for the look of the standings, let Warren know.

Thurs/ June 16.... I’m back....I’ve been busy.... A few things to talk about.

First, welcome to all the new members and returning members for another year of golf.  Kevin has got the course absolutely beauty, and the food at the clubhouse is excellent.

We are planning a fundraiser for September 17th.  There are copies of a letter outlining the format of the event.  There is also a volunteer sign up sheet in the clubhouse. We need all of your help.  A copy of the letter can be found here as well.  (Fund Raising Letter)

The Club Championship is being planned for the 21st of August.

The Men’s Cash Scramble was a raging success again.  Thank you Ryan Wecker and your design team.

There has been some discussion about the development fee, and whether it is deterring new memberships.  The history of the development fee needs to be reviewed and the value of it needs to be explained to all potential new members.  It is the current membership’s responsibility to convey this perspective. Potential new members have to understand the following.  The Hanna Golf and Country Club boasts the most affordable memberships for an 18 hole championship course in Alberta.  Brooks is $860,  Innisfail $1287 annual plus a one time $8400 shareholder price tag, Olds $822 plus a $250-$1000 development fee,  Pheasantback $850 plus a one time initial $5000 share fee, Taber $830 plus a one time $1000 share fee, Claresholm $710, Carstairs $1575 plus a one time $3675 share .  Here’s the rub.  None of these clubs give you a superior golf experience to that of the Hanna Golf and Country Club.  The Hanna Golf and Country Club has kept it’s promise to keep the fee increases close to the rate of cost of living.  A single membership in 2007 was $605 with a $100 development fee.  Today, with a membership of $675 and a development fee of $250, Hanna Golf and Country Club is proud to offer one the most appealing membership rates in the province.  Payment of the development fee by a new member simply pays respect to all of the work and input members from the past have offered.  It is this commitment and investment by current and past members that has helped the Hanna Golf and Country Club grow to what it is today.  Understand that if one were to suddenly develop a golf course of the quality of the Hanna Golf and Country Club, the fee structure would undoubtedly be far more expensive than it is today.  Paying a development fee simply acknowledges all of the work and effort that members of previous years have committed to building such a wonderful facility.  If you find that your budget does not permit the whole payment of either the membership fee or the development fee, we are flexible on payment methods.  Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

Once again the HGCC is glad to announce that our reciprocal deal with the Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club is in effect for 2010.  For those of you who are not familiar with this, here are the details.   First it is for members only.   Second, all tee time bookings have to be made with your home course (HGCC).  If there is a tournament on your home course (HGCC) then you may book, through your home course (HGCC), a round at the Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club and pay a green fee of only $10!!!  This does not include power cart.  You will not be allowed to play if you attempt to book this through the Dinosaur Trail Golf and Country Club if you are a member of Hanna.  Once again, you must book it through your home course (HGCC).  This is an excellent privilege available to members only!

Ryan Wecker has volunteered more of his time to organize some more fundraising projects.  If you have any ideas or would like to help Ryan, give him a call at 403 854 4774.   Thank you Ryan!

One last thing is that we would like to have every one's email address.  We can use these to notify when more information has been added to the website.  We are going to have a contact sheet to be filled out by every member, but if you would like to give me your email address now, so I can add you to the contact list please email drdavid@telusplanet.net.   Thank you

If you have any news about the club and want to share it, please email drdavid@telusplanet.net .
